The cotton and bamboo yarn that is used in the clothing supplied to Cuddly Baby is either Oeko-Tex 100 certified or certified by SKAL/GOTS. What does this mean? This certifies that the finished fibre has been tested for any chemicals that may be harmful to a persons health and has been found to contain no trace chemicals that pose any health threat whatsoever.
This means that every company working with cotton or bamboo starts with the same raw material, and that this material is not contaminated. Bamboo and cotton is secured from GOTS and Oeko-Tex certified suppliers who are controlled by a FAIRTRADE policy. Dyeing and printing is also done by GOTS and Oeko-Tex certified dyers. Growing organic cotton is very different from growing conventional cotton. All the cotton that is used is hand-picked and organic. This ensures cotton farmers do not have to handle dangerous chemicals and the clothing is kinder on your skin.
The cotton is certified organic to either Skal or Demeter standards. All prints have been produced using the most ecological water based inks or vegetable dyes available.
Chemical pesticides are not allowed, so instead of artificial fertilisers and regular toxic chemical spraying the farmers use guano (bird droppings) as their main fertiliser and good bugs to kill the bad bugs. For example, ladybirds are introduced to eat harmful bugs like aphids.
The cotton crop is also rotated with other crops such as sweet potato, beans and corn, which replenishes the soil's natural nutrients and makes the farmers less dependent on one crop. Once harvested, the cotton is guaranteed to be bought from the farmer at a fixed price. This gives the farmers a security that they cannot get in the open market.
Bamboo cotton has many amazing properties and first and foremost it is beautifully soft. It is extremely versatile, and can be used to make knitwear that feels like cashmere, soft and durable bamboo denim, and silky-soft jersey pieces.
It is a high-end luxury product. Bamboo fabric is also hypoallergenic and thermo-regulating. It can be machine washed at 40 degrees just like cotton. (For environmental reasons we recommend you wash at 30 degrees).
Bamboo fabric is UV-resistant. Bamboo is naturally organic, sustainable (the world's fastest growing plant) and takes in 35% more carbon dioxide than equivalent stands of other plants. It is a grass, so regenerates without the need for replanting. Bamboo is rain-fed only and helps to reduce soil erosion so overall is good for the environment.
The bamboo that is used to make the clothes we provide to you is organically sourced and Oeko-Tex 100 certified. The organic cotton is also certified by SKAL/GOTS.
Soybean fibre is a soft, light, and smooth protein fibre. It is smoother than cashmere and has the same moisture absorption as cotton but with a better moisture transmission, making it more comfortable on the skin. It is hydroscopic, air pervious, soft, smooth, dry and has superior warmth retention that is comparable to wool.
We combine the benefits of soybean protein fibre to cotton such as luster, moisture-permeability, quick-dry ability and drape while keeping our cost and your price reasonable and affordable. This is so that more parents can contribute to the green movement and more babies can benefit from the healthy botanical textile fibre. In addition, soybean fibre is so soft that it needs a longer length fibre to build a structure for the super soft textile.
